A picture a day keeps the boredom away

I told you I would take a picture and turn it into a story. Here I go:

The days were sad and lonely. When he finally came home, she was too tired to care. She had been shut up for forever, it seemed, and when it was night, it did not make much of a difference if she slept or if she lay awake.
He noticed it. There had been a slow and gradual change in her, but he noticed the first time that she had that vacant expression. The very first moment her eyes had glazed over, he saw it.
"I'm away from you too long." He told her. He talked about obvious things. Sometimes he did not know if she ever noticed his comings and goings, or if she did, did she care?
She nodded. "You need to stay home." She did notice. He took comfort in that, but he could not do what she asked. She was so simple. Life was infuriatingly more complicated than she was.
"I need to work."
"Not this much."
"Not this much. I know." But he could barely earn enough to support them.
"Will you stay?" She asked.
"How long?" He could not possibly be considering this.
"Forever." Her innocent eyes pierced into his.
"How will we live without any money?" He had to ask her the simplest things. Sometimes he feared all sense was leaving her.
"Just like we used to live." She said. "Carefree."
He looked at her adoringly. He wished somehow he could make her all better. But she was tired. He could not make her sleep. Her brain was going back in time to when she was just a child. He liked her youthful purity, but it frightened him.
"Please?" She asked. "Quit your job. You don't need it. Plenty of people live without jobs."
"But they go hungry, and they are cold."
"I don't mind the hunger. Those pains go away after a while. And as long as I'm with you, I'm never cold."
He took her hand and held it to his face. She was reclining on her bed and was almost swallowed by the pillows.
"Let's just go and not come back for a while."

He scooped her up, blankets and everything, and put her in the car. He drove away with her in hopes of finding a happier time and a more pleasant place.
