One thing I am excited for

April!
April means that this writing challenge I so poorly picked out for myself will be over! April means spring! April means National Poetry Writing Month!
April means a lot of other nice things I cannot think of at this moment!
Hurrah for April!

Five weird things I like

I like soggy cereal.

I like calculators.

I like brushing my teeth.

I like the smell of my neighborhood at night when people are all doing their laundry...

I like fish sticks.

And I'm not going to explain any of that, because the title of this post is 'weird' and that is what I gave to you.

A quote I try to live by

Lately I have realized what an anxious person I am.
God commanded us to be anxious for nothing.
That's what I'm working on in my life right now.
And you know, I just complained about those 8 chapters.
Sometimes I just need to learn to let things go...

Let it go...
Let it go,
Can't hold it back anymore....

Now it's stuck in my head. Great.

Things I like and dislike about myself

Well, I like my writing and artistic talents, but I'm not particularly fond of my hair-styling skills....

Something I am currently worrying about

If I will be able to read like 8 chapters of Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology in time for class next week...

Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Five Words or Phrases That Make Me Laugh

Depending on the time of day, and who says it, I can laugh at just about anything...

One time I died over the word "Cheese-stick" as well as "Smorgasbord".

There is also the phrase, "We have a place for you, right over here." I smile as I write this. Nobody gets it but me and my brother...hehehe

Oh, and there's this one with Maggie, "Does your knee hurt again?"

 Yep...that's that.

And one last one that kills me, "I love math!"

Something that I miss

Chocolate, I had you at lunch, and now you are gone...*sniffle*

My Academics

Oh boy, I enjoy talking about what I learn! The problem is that my brother is one (or two, or three...) steps ahead of me, so he already knows everything there is to know...
I tell him, "Oh did you know..." and he says, "Yes, I took that class last year."
of course you did...

But, I can unleash my knowledge upon you, oh unsuspecting reader!

A few days ago I learned about Barbados. There were a few prompt questions from the assignment and I researched all of them. Yay! I am a nerd!

Barbados, an island in the Windward Island group, is mostly flat compared to its hilly neighbors.
The government of Barbados is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system; the main language being English, and its main religion being 95% Christian.
The currency is called the Barbadian dollar.
Percentages of Barbadian ethnic groups are 93% Black, 3.2% White, 2.6% mixed, 1% East Indian, and .2% other.
The major industries are tourism, sugar, and light manufacturing.
The main trade partners of Barbados for exports are the U.S. Trinidad, Tobago, UK, and Jamaica; for exports are U.S. Trinidad, Tobago, Japan, and the UK.

That's Barbados' flag.
Barbados was discovered in 1536 by Portuguese explorer Pedro a Campos. The first European colony of Barbados was not founded until the English came in 1627 and names the settlement Jamestown (AKA Holetown).
Barbados' independence day falls on November 30, 1966.
Some interesting facts about Barbados:
-two of Barbados' natural disasters are the Great Hurricane of 16 October, 1780, and the Great Landslide of 1786
-Some famous people from Barbados are Rihanna, Sylvesta Stuart, and Grandmaster Flash
-The name 'Barbados is derived from the Bearded Fig trees on the island
-Barbados has never succesfully been invaded by a foreign power
-the first slaves in Barbados were white (called 'indentured servants'); people who, for various reasons, had been deemed enemies of the Crown. This practice was so prevalent during the period 1640-50, that a phrase for the punishment was coined 'to be Barbadoed.'
-1841-1845 Barbados was considered the healthiest place to live in the world, having 1 death per 66 people compared to the rest of the world with 1 death per 35 people.
-South Caroline was first settled by Barbadians, and its first governor was Barbadian

And I also recieved another assignment for Chemistry. Joy to the world.
Chemistry is not my favorite, but I was allowed to choose my topic. So that was nice.
I chose wind energy. I am to give a power point presentation to my class.

In the power point, I begin with the history of windmills. These, to my surprise date so far back that researchers do not agree who invented them first. The main debate I found was between the Chinese, Europeans, and the Cretans. This, obviously, is a photograph of the windmills on Crete.

This is one from Europe.
As you can see, the first blades were crafted from sails, much like a sail boat, which is where the ancients derived their idea. The function of windmills in the past, of course, was not to produce energy, but to either grind corn or wheat, or pump water.

And an American windmill:

Simple, but effective.

And I'm not sure what these words mean, but it sounds intelligent.
Displaying image.png
panemone. yep, that word is red-underlined on blogger too....

I wish the words were visible on this image. They might be to you, but I can't see them. (I'm blind as a bat).
But I like the concept. It shows the evolution of the windmill, which brings me up nicely to my next point.
Modern day windmills.
Displaying image.png
Those are varieties. A small wind farm can produce enough energy for 9,000 homes, and a large wind farm even more so.
Displaying image.png
Scientifically, yet rather simply, this machine produces electricity. The weather vane on the top detects wind direction allowing the wind mill to face the wind, for optimum power.
Inside, with all those gears and lever things, something pretty nifty happens:
Displaying image.png
The grey bar attached to the turbines, rotates at approximately 18 revolutions per minute. Now, that is too slow to conduct any electricity, so it has to go faster. The gears in the blue box help rotate the smaller grey bar to turn approximately 18,000 revolutions per minute, which is now fast enough to produce the electricity.
Conclusion: I think I'll do well on my presentation next week!

Haven't I done this already? I shall refer you to a previous post for this topic...

How Important I Think Education Is

Gosh, education is the best thing since sliced bread!
I've said this before, and I'll say it again, a country with ignorance is poisoned and doomed to crumble and fall in on itself.
Children need to be educated by people who are in love with their subjects. Teachers need to be passionate about math, grammar, science, and history. When kids see how important their knowledge is, they will be encouraged to pursue it.

Something I would say to an ex

I'm supposed to tell you what I would say to an ex:

Well...I don't really have an ex.
But if I did, it would go something like this:
Hello there, Ex
There must be something I  missed...

Or:

Are you the X on a treasure map?
I'd like to go on a quest!
But if you're not, I'll take a nap
Because sleeping is the best.

Or perhaps:

Are we talking about the Greek letter X
Because that's in Chemistry, which I don't like
If this is our subject, I'd much rather die
So, mole fraction, go take a hike!

Something I am passionate about

I am passionate about ignorance. I am passionate about the amount of ignorance in our country.
Ignorance is a poison. It ruins society. Lack of knowledge destroys.
If we don't have knowledge, how will we know what is right and what is wrong? If we don't have information how will we be able to learn from mistakes? If we don't learn our history then we can't see the patterns of our past, and we will fail over and over again.
That is why I want to be a writer. That is why I want to be a teacher. I want to give people knowledge and information. I want our society to be informed and enlightened. I want to make a difference and be a world changer.

A book I love

Today's topic is to write about a book I love. A topic which took me FOREVER to decide.
But, in my mental (and sometimes out-loud) debates with myself, I finally determined that I would write about this one:
Yes, it is a rather childish book, but a good one. I have read it almost as many times as Ginger Pye (which is another childish book that I was debating whether or not to write about..).
The protagonist Lizzie is going to high school. She has conflicts in what to wear to school, fearing what all the popular kids will think of her, whether or not she wears a dress or a tank top. She also goes to her school's football games and is uncomfortable there.
So now you may be wondering, what is it that draws me to this book?
Lizzie carried around a notebook, and I carry around a notebook.
Lizzie liked to dress in dresses, and I too dress in dresses.
Lizzie read poetry, and I read poetry.
Lizzie was a poet, and I wanted to be.
I am a poet now because this book inspired me. It showed me that I could be a poet.
Lizzie loved to write poetry, but at school, all the kids thought she was weird for stopping mid-walk-down-the-hall just to jot down a line of prose. She was uncomfortable with her gift.
The whole book is about her growing into her talent and learning to accept the way she was and being grateful for it.
I never have been insecure about my writing. I have only ever been unsure whether I am a writer or not. Yet, as I read this story, I found all the little things I had in common with this strange girl and it changed my life.

Five ways to win my heart

I think it is about time I did another writing challenge...as you can see I wrote 13 times in a 28 day month. That is pretty pathetic.
And I know, I know it is a little late to start another month's challenge on the sixth day of that month...but whatever. I do what I want.
That being said, I might as well begin.
Today's challenge is:
Five ways to win my heart.

1) If we are not talking about romance, then you can win my heart by being faithful to those who you love.

2) You can win my heart by being virtuous.

3) You can win my heart by giving me a new book to read or a new notebook and some pens!!!

4) You can win my heart by valuing people, including yourself and me

5) You can win my heart by loving God with your whole heart.

And...

1) If we are talking about romance, then you'd have to be a guy...

2) If we are talking about guys romantically, then you'd have to be a Christian.

3) If we are talking romantically about Christian guys, then you'd have to be a British guy. (And by British I mean gentlemanly, intelligent, and having the awesome accent.)

4) If we are talking romantically about Christian, British guys, then you'd have to be tall and handsome.

5) If we are talking romantically about Christian*, British, tall, and handsome guys then you'd have to be him:

The End

*I have no idea if he is a Christian, but I sure hope he is...
